About me
My name is Opubor Gbassa, I'm from Nigeria. I was born on the 1st of June 2004. I'm 21 years old.
I love sports and music. I play soccer mostly cause my dad always wanted us to go into sports while
growing up. I play the guitar and piano. I've always loved music from a young age. In my secondary
school, I was the sports prefect and also represented my school in many competitions like table tennis
and soccer. I came very close to winning my school gold medal for the table tennis competition. I also
represented my school for some musical competitions. I was able to bring back the gold medal for most
of the musical competitions I went for.
My experience
I chose to study Computer Programming at sherdian college cause I've always had an interest to how computers
work. Originally, I was interested in studying Architecture, but i recently got a change in mind about my
future. When I graduate from sheridan, I want to go into the Cybersecurity field of Computer Science. I went
to secondary school in Nigeria and it was a baording school. My favorite subject was math. I also went to
Laurentian University in Sudbury before attending Sheridan. I studied Architecture over there and it was a
struggle for me at first. I found time management really hard and therefore I failed some courses because of
that and I decided to just drop out of Architecture for now. But I will definitely still pick it back up at some point in my life.
My Lifestyle
I was born in Nigeria, and I have a pet back home. His name is sinba, he's a mixed breed dog. He's a mix of German Sheppard and St. Bernard. He's 7
years old. I also have other dog pets in the same house, most of which are St. Bernards. I love dogs cause they're very active and mobile. I will probably be
getting a dog here in Canada. I have 4 siblings. 3 brothers and 1 sister. My dad is a retired military officer and my mum is also a retired health officer.
My sister works with the Nigerian Air Force. She started her training in the United States of America but decided to head back home to work for her home
country. My 2 older brothers are civilians in Nigeria, one of them works as a computer analyst and the other works in a bank. My junior brother is an
aspiring Nigerian Army officer and is training for that right now. I grew up in a house filled with men and I believe that is where the love for sports
came from. We would always go outside in the evenings and play soccer for about 2 hours non stop. Since I got to Canada, I've rarely played soccer because of the weather majorly and because my main priority here is school.
Life here is new for me because of so many things, but the weather is the main thing that worries me. I usually just put on as many layers as I can
but when it's very cold sometimes there's not much I can really do about it. Most of my friends are in Sudbury because that's the first school I went to when I first got here. The change of Instituion was to help me with a new start because I would have easily just switched programs in Laurentian Univeristy, but I had to let go of so many friends I made along the way. A small price to pay for salvation.
I found making friends very hard when I first got here cause I'm very introverted but I got used to socializing as time went on. The fact that my whole family
is back home also makes it hard for me. I stay with my cousins here whenever I have breaks from school, which can be classified as home away from home,
but it can never be the same as having siblings and parents at home. But I've come a long way to not continue my journey because of not being with my family.
